Room (Practice surface treatmenting)
For the whole year I've been painting this room on and off again, so here is a "step by step timelapse" of my progress.
(step 1) Preparations:
I was given the task painting the walls blue, but before I could do that I had to do some preparations.
First, I needed to cover the floor with protective paper (make sure to use paper that doesn't absorb paint easily). Then I'd use masking tape to keep the paper in place + to tape the baseboard.
(step 2) Starting off with a blank slate:

After I'm done laying down protective paper, I could move forward into painting the walls.
To start, I first marked the edges of the baseboard (= jalkalista) with a 50 mm paintbrush using
Prof 7 wall paint, which was tinted blue. I'd also mark the room's ceiling molding (= kattolista) with a paint edger (= rajaaja). Lastly I painted around the window casing.
When I'm finished with painting the baseboard and ceiling molding, I'll move onto painting the corners of the room with a mini paint roller. After I've let the paint dry, I could start painting the walls.
For this, I needed a paint roller, an extension cord, a paint tray and of course the paint itself.
I'd paint the walls by painting up and down until I'm happy with how the pigment is showing. I'd then end it off with painting from the bottom going all the way up until I reach the marked ceiling molding that I've made. I would repeat this with the other two walls until I'm finished.
After that, I could start painting the middle wall in white.
For the paint, I used Eurodecor's interior decoration paint in the color white.
I'd start with marking the wall edges with a paint edger, so that I don't accidentally paint over the blue walls + I'd mark the edges of the window casing too.
Everything else is the same as what I did when painting the blue walls: same equiptment and same painting technique but with white paint.

(step 3) Painting squares + touch-ups:
For this, I was tasked to paint two squares without the help of any masking tape.
First, I started off with sketching squares on opposite sides of the walls. Then I'd carefully paint over the sketches with Eurodecor's interior decoration paint.
I'd then do some touch-ups on the window casing by painting it over with Teknos' Futura Aqua 80. I'd paint a bit on the ceiling molding as well, since there had accidentally gotten blue paint in some spots.
(step 4) Painting the room + adding filler:
I was tasked with painting the room white again and then to add filler to the walls, but firstly I had to do some simpler tasks as...
Sanding the window casing for any imperfections that happened during the painting process + doing the same thing for the ceiling molding.
When I'm done with that, I brushed off any excess dust that had accumulated during the sanding process.
After I've done these, I could start painting the whole room white.
For this, I used Tikkurila's Siro 2 primer and ceiling paint.
The same thing goes as follows:
- For equipment I needed a paint roller (normal and mini sized), an extension cord, a paint tray, a paintbrush and a paint edger.
- Mark the edges of the baseboard, window casing and the ceiling molding with paint.
- Use mini roller the paint the corners of the room
- Use paint roller and extension cord to paint the whole room with white paint.
(I'd then repeat this another time for a better looking coat on the walls).
I could then move onto repainting the ceiling molding and the window casinng. For the paint I used Cello's Cristal Aqua.

I used a 35 mm paintbrush to do the job. I also used a more tiny paintbrush to get the more "hard to get places".
After I've painted the window casing and the ceiling modling, I could move onto putting filler in the corners of the walls.
I used Timpuri's acrylic to fill in the corners.
Letting the filler dry I could then move onto adding renovation filler onto the walls. One the the walls I had to cover completely in filler.
For the filler, I used Tikkurila's Presto LF. To add the filler onto the walls, I used Anza's trowels (15 cm and 25 cm).
After I've added the renovation filler, the end result looked like this...
After letting the filler completely dry, I'd then move onto sanding. When I'm done with that, I can brush off and vaccuum the excess dust that appeared while sanding.
(step 5) Painting the walls + drawing and painting a diamond:
As my second last task for this room, I got to choose what colors I'd paint the walls. I was also tasked with painting a diamond shape onto one of the walls. But For this I needed paint, so I chose Eurodecor's interior renovation paint, which is tinted green and Colorex's NO 3, which is tinted pink .
Firstly I needed to paint the walls before I'd draw any diamond, so for this I needed...
- paint
- a paint roller
- an extension cord (for the paint roller)
- a mini paint roller
- a paint tray
- a paint edger
- and a 50 mm paintbrush
I'd then follow the same instructions as in step 1, using Eurodecor's paint instead of Prof 7 wall paint.
After I've let the paint dry for about 3 hours, I could then move onto painting the left side of the wall with Colorex's NO 3. I'd also get to draw and paint a diamond on the right side.
Again, I'd follow the instructions of step one as last time, but only painting the left side.
However, with the diamond, I needed a pencil, an eraser, masking tape and a ruler. Firstly I had to measure the right wall, so that I could draw a symmetrical diamond. With the eraser, I'd fix any mistakes with the measurements. After that, I would use the masking tape that I had to border the diamond.
I'd then get to paint the diamond, but for this I needed a small paint roller, a paint tray and a paintbrush.
First I'd paint the outline of the diamond inside the borders before I'd paint the whole thing. After letting that dry I'd then be able to paint the rest of it.
(Painting the outline of the diamond first and letting it dry prevents any excess paint from seeping throught the masking tape.)
After letting it dry, the end result looks like this.
(step 6) Finishing touches:
For the final task I have to do for this year's room, I needed to repaint the baseboard in white paint. But before I could paint anything, I needed to border the baseboard with masking tape, to protect any excess paint going anywhere else.
After I've boardered the baseboard, I could start painting it. For this I used Teknos' Futura Aqua 80 + a 25 mm paintbrush.
After letting the paint dry, I was finally done with this year's room (or until I'll start another year long project like this)
